ICL 1900 Series George 3 Operating System Commands

DEAD (DD)

Function

Withdraws magnetic tapes from the system.

Format

DEAD tape serial number1, tape serial number2, ....tape serial numbern

The tape serial numbers must be qualified by *MT.

Forbidden contexts

None

Execution

  1. USER Context

The tapes must be owned by the proper user and must not be in query status. Their directory entries and entries in :SYSTEM.SERIAL are deleted, and the proper user's SPACEMT budget is updated.

  2. NO USER Context

If a tape is a pool tape or a work tape then its record is deleted from :SYSTEM.SERIAL provided that it is not in query status.

All the tapes described by the parameters will be dealt with apart from those which have error messages given about them. Since tapes are not dealt with in the order in which they are specified in the parameters, if a break-in occurs no assumptions should be made about which tapes have or have not been DEADed. If the tape is in use or being waited for then it does not become insecure until these users have completed their access to it.

Example

DEAD (360245)(*MT),(360247)(*MT)
