DIRECTORY (DY)

Function

Changes the job's current directory.

Format

DIRECTORY file description

The file description must name a directory. Since all directories have generation 1 and language C1 supplied by GEORGE, the user should not supply such details in the file description parameter. If included, these details will normally be ignored but in some cases will give rise to a command error.

Execution

Once a DIRECTORY command has been issued, relative names given in commands will be taken to be relative to the named directory.

Notes

• Initially (for example, at LOGIN) the current directory is the proper user's proper directory
• The user's proper directory is not changed by the DIRECTORY command. Thus a user cannot aquire another user's budgets or gain access to another user's files by means of this command.
• If the parameter is a relative name, it is of cource taken relative to the directory that was current before this command was issued
