SHUTUP (SU)

Function

To delete messages awaiting output to the operator's console when some incident has caused the console to be swamped with unwanted messages (for example if a job goes wild and produces 50 listings, a subsequently issued STOPLIST command produces an acknowledgement for each one.
(Mend Exchange Scheme modification M334).

Execution

The SHUTUP command may be issued from the central operator's console. It deletes all messages awaiting output to the console at the time (except the first, which may be in progress when the command takes effect). Unprocessed input commands are preserved.

Note

This is obviously a very drastic command and should only be used when the only practical alternative is to crash the system to regain control of the console.
