ICL 1900 Series George 3 Operating System Commands

TAPES (TP)

Function

Produces a listing of all or part of the contents of :SYSTEM.SERIAL as selected by the parameters.

Format

TAPES basic output peripheral type, magnetic tape qualifier

The basic output peripheral type is optional; if it is included it must be *LP or *CP; if it is omitted, the listing will be output on a line printer. The listing may not be produced on a paper tape punch.

The magnetic tape qualifier must be POOL, OWNEd or WORK to indicate which tape categories are to be listed. If this parameter is omitted all the tape entries in :SYSTEM.SERIAL are listed.

Forbidden contexts

NOT OPERATOR, REMOTE

Execution

The command initiates a system job with the jobname TAPES, under the user name :OPERATORS, which loads and enters a subject program. This program produces a listing of the tapes in :SYSTEM.SERIAL which satisfy the condition implied by the magnetic tape qualifier. The serial number of each tape is written to a workfile. The program also writes the username if the tape is 'owned'. Otherwise it indicates that the tape is a pool or work tape, unless a listing of only pool or only work tapes has been requested. 'Owned' work tapes are not listed under the owned category and in a listing of all tapes or work tapes, the serial number of an 'owned' work tape is qualified by the user name.

The workfile used by the program is listed using a LISTFILE command. As the TAPES command is implemented by running a job, a monitoring file is produced and listed on the line printer when the job is completed.

Examples

TAPES *CP,OWNE A listing of owned tapes will be output on a card punch
TAPES WORK,*LP A listing of work tapes will be output on a line printer
TAPES A listing of all tapes will be output on a line printer
