Execution

The command UNJAM can be issued from the central operator's console. It initiates a run of the Backing Store Unjammer if it is not already running. This can be used:-

  1. To implement 'archive' bits set by a filestore management system, without waiting for a backing store jam.

  2. To shift the increased filestore traffic of unjamming to a convenient time (for example, if your filestore gets jammed every day, this could well be in the afternoon peak MOP time; UNJAM after midnight should remove the daytime jam or at least reduce its severity).

Note

Great care should be taken if you interfere with the value of the installation parameter FORMULA, for example, to obtain a 'light' unjam of only archived files. An unexpectedly severe unjam may follow if any residence was found to be over threshold.
